Lee is a staunch supporter of PETA and animal rights. Lee has written Terry Prather in protest of Tilikum's treatment of the animal in 2010. Lee felt that the animal ought to be released and explained that SeaWorld wouldn't comply as Tilikum is their primary source of sperm. Lee expressed his displeasure with SeaWorld's inept and bizarre method of obtaining Tilikum fertilm. Lee claimed that he'd avoid more tragedies of trainers dying, since these tragedies were due to the whales' fear of the confinement.
