Audra is a unique artist with regard to the scope and range of her skills as a performer and songwriter. Audra McDonald who has won six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was listed as one of the Time magazine's 100 most influential people. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the nation's most prestigious award to recognize achievements in the field. McDonald was brought up at Fresno California by her musical parents. She studied classical music in the Juilliard School, New York. In 2004, she received her fourth Tony for her role as Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012, she took home her fifth Tony Award, and her first win in the leading actress category for her performance as the title character for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. When she won the sixth Tony Award in 2014, Billie Holiday's portrayal of the role Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill became the most prestigious Broadway production. In 2017, she also performed in her West End London West End debut and was nominated to receive the Olivier Award. The actress also broke the record for winning the most Tony Awards by an actor. The credits she has in the theater includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night was McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is The Making of the Musical Seduction of 1921-and All That Followed. Frankie Johnny in the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. McDonald was introduced to the television audience as a dramatic actress by Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters first 100 years. She appeared on the show in 1999. co-starred alongside Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. In addition, she played regularly recurring roles on NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in the year 2000. McDonald's debut Emmy was awarded for her performance in the HBO movie adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Wit. The film was directed by Mike Nichols with Emma Thompson in the leading role, McDonald then returned to television networks in 2003. She starred in Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. Beginning in 2006, she was part of The Bedford Diaries' cast on show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over the next season she had a recurring role on NBC's television series Kidnapped. McDonald was awarded the 4th Emmy nomination for her part in HBO's special film of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill in the year 2016. The Bite is a drama with six episodes based on a pandemic, coproduced with Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. She appeared alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. McDonald appeared as U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence, a character she first was seen in CBS's The Good Wife legal drama in the year 2009. She reprised this role in the year 2018, playing season the regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. As a result of her role, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominees. The actress is currently guest on Julian Fellowes' historical comedy The Gilded Age.
